M1 Mercyhurst University beats M1 Cornell University 7-6 after comeback scare

The M1 Cornell University Big Red tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the M1 Mercyhurst University Lakers held on for a 7-6 victory.

M1 Mercyhurst University made the score 7-3 on a goal by Jesse Valasek at 12:59 in the second period, and M1 Cornell University got as close as 7-6 when Tedric Bellis scored 7:15 into the third period.

The Lakers bested their season scoring average. M1 Mercyhurst University has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Lakers took advantage of the Big Red's penalties, tallying four goals off of five power play opportunities. By firing 37 shots on goal, M1 Mercyhurst University exceeded the 1.3 shot it averages per game this year.

M1 Mercyhurst University also got points from Patrick Dolan, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Joseph Tadiello, who also registered one goal and two assists. Joseph Zinner also scored for M1 Mercyhurst University. Cameron Yang recorded 30 saves for M1 Cornell University. The Big Red totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
