Whitby blows out Dundas, 11-2

The Dundas Real McCoys had trouble finding ways to stop the Whitby Dunlops, which beat Real McCoys, 11-2.

Whitby got the win with help from a great game by Connor Shingler, who had two goals and two assists. Shingler scored the first of his two goals at 12:40 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Whitby. Shingler's next tally made the score 10-2 Whitby with 5:32 left in the third period. The Dunlops played down a man on Mike Pawlak's interference. Matthew Baxter picked up the assist.

Dundas' eight penalties came back to haunt it, as the Real McCoys let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

Whitby forced Dundas' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 48 shots and forcing 37 saves. Mike Mole made 27 stops and Neil Clelland made 10. The Dunlops outdid their season average for goals scored. Whitby averages 6.6 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Whitby also got points from Scott Freeman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Peter MacKellar, who also registered two goals and one assist, Kyle Ventura, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Greg Leyden, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Baxter, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Chris Purves, who also registered one goal and one assist. Matt Gray also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Chris Eade, who had two and Jared Docking, Brett McConnachie, and Shane Terry, who each chipped in one.

The Real McCoys were held below their usual level of production. Dundas puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Real McCoys forced the Dunlops goalie Anthony Kimlin to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Dundas found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

The Real McCoys were led by Beni Berisha, who tallied one goal and one assist. Berisha scored on the power play 11:54 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Whitby. Dundas had gained a power play chance when Ventura was whistled for high sticking. Jeff White provided the assist. Dundas also got a goal from Cam Watson as well. More assists for Dundas came via Jordan Foreman and Curtis Campbell, who contributed one each.

Kimlin rejected 41 shots on goal for Whitby. The Dunlops incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gray was ejected from the game. The Real McCoys registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For Dundas, Foreman and Watson were ejected from the contest.
