The Norwood Vipers could not stop the Whitby Dunlops' Peter MacKellar, who tallied a hat trick in a 13-4 win. MacKellar's first goal came 10:57 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:09 into the second and at 16:02 into the second.Whitby gained an early advantage, leading 5-1 by the end of the first period. The Dunlops' penalty kill excelled, as Whitby gave up zero goals despite allowing 11 power plays. The Dunlops forced Vipers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 54 shots and forcing 41 saves. David Ayres made 20 stops and Caydon Edwards made 21. Whitby stifled Norwood's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Dunlops found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Whitby averages 6.2 goals per game. The defensemen of the Dunlops were also effective in the Vipers' zone, and came away with four goals. Whitby also got points from Chris Gour, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Kyle Ventura, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Matthew Baxter, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Shane Terry, who also tallied one goal and three assists. Others who scored for Whitby included Scott Freeman, Brett McConnachie, Connor Shingler, Greg Leyden, and Adam Van Dam, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Doug Carr, who had one, Mike Pawlak, who had three, and Patrick Jobb and Matt Gray, who contributed two each. Norwood kept Whitby's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason Guy made 32 saves on 36 shots. The Vipers were helped by Darren Doherty, who had one goal. Doherty scored 2:35 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Whitby. Norwood additionally got points from Brendan Curry, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Norwood also had goals scored by Mike Hanna and James Diminie, who scored one goal each. More assists for Norwood came via Phil Darrington and Chris Johnston, who each chipped in one. The Dunlops incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Norwood incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
