Whitby blows out Norwood, 7-1

The Whitby Dunlops were firing on all cylinders against the Norwood Vipers, and when the final buzzer sounded Dunlops emerged with a 7-1 win.

Whitby got the win with help from a great game by Peter MacKellar, who had two goals and one assist. MacKellar scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:46 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. The Dunlops had gotten the advantage when Norwood's Phil Darrington was sent off for too many men. MacKellar's next tally on the power play made the score 6-0 Whitby with 15:40 left in the third period. Shane Terry assisted on the tally.

Whitby's Anthony Kimlin was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Kimlin will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

The Dunlops forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Whitby had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Dunlops' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Norwood power plays. The Vipers were unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dunlops eventually piled up 47 shots on goal.

Whitby additionally got points from Patrick Jobb, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Whitby also had goals scored by Brett McConnachie, who had two and Nick Jobb and Matt Salituro, who each put in one. In addition, Whitby received assists from Adam Maccarone, Kyle Ventura, Jared Docking, and Kyle Musselman, who contributed one each.

Whitby registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For the Dunlops, Martin Kearns was ejected from the game. Paul Bourbeau Jr rejected 40 shots on goal for Norwood. The Vipers incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
