Doherty nets hat trick, leads Norwood to 8-4 win over Dundas

A hat trick by Darren Doherty was the highlight in Vipers' 8-4 win against the Dundas Real McCoys.

Doherty's first goal came 18:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 12 seconds into the third and at 9:14 into the third.

The Norwood Vipers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Norwood kept Dundas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mike Mole made 35 saves on 43 shots. The Vipers' goal total was higher than their season average. Norwood averages 3.1 goals per game. The defensemen of the Vipers were also effective in the Real McCoys' zone, and came away with two goals.

Norwood additionally got points from Joe Curry, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Mike Hanna, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Norwood also had goals scored by Jordan Freeland and Brendan Curry, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Norwood were Chris Johnston, who had three and Kevin Taylor, James Diminie, and Ryan Rinneard, who contributed one each.

Dundas' offense rang up 35 shots on Norwood's net.

The Real McCoys were helped by Shawn Snider, who tallied one goal and two assists. Snider scored 12:47 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Norwood. Colin Isnor assisted on the tally. Dundas also got points from Cam Watson, who also had two goals and one assist. Scott Stafford also scored for Dundas. In addition, Dundas received assists from Ryan Watson, Adam Ostermier, Stuart Isnor, and Keegan Rowe, who each chipped in one.

Paul Bourbeau Jr rejected 31 shots on goal for the Vipers. Norwood incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Dundas incurred 68 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
