Stoney Creek outlasts Whitby, 6-4

The game between the Stoney Creek Generals and the Whitby Dunlops was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Stoney Creek emerged with a 6-4 win.

The Generals gained the winning advantage on a goal by Nathan Pageau 19:28 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Dennis Maxwell had two goals and one assist to lead Stoney Creek. Maxwell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stoney Creek. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Scott Freeman had put the Generals on the power play. Mike Ruberto provided the assist. Maxwell's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Stoney Creek with one second1 seconds left in the third period. Ruberto picked up the assist.

Stoney Creek's penalty kill excelled, as the Generals gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Stoney Creek's offense rang up 49 shots on Whitby's net. The Generals were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Stoney Creek also got points from Ruberto, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Jamie Visser, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Matthew Reynolds also scored for Stoney Creek. Other players who recorded assists for Stoney Creek were Dylan Gilbert, Dominic Crnogorac, and Kyle Zettler, who contributed one each.

The Dunlops forced Stoney Creek goalie Daniel Svedin to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Whitby was helped by Matt Salituro, who grabbed one goal. Salituro scored 5:02 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Chris Gour assisted on the tally. Whitby additionally got points from Patrick Jobb, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Gour, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Whitby also got a goal from Matt Gray as well. More assists for Whitby came via Doug Carr, Brett McConnachie, and Chris Purves, who each chipped in one.

The Generals' Svedin stopped 43 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Stoney Creek registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Jason Guy rejected 43 shots on goal for the Dunlops. Whitby incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Dunlops, Freeman was ejected from the game.
