Stoney Creek downs Whitby in overtime, 4-3 (OT)MLH Head Office Sun, Nov 30, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Sean Blanchard gave the Stoney Creek Generals a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Whitby Dunlops when he scored 2:37 into the extra period. Stoney Creek overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Generals fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Whitby's Shane Terry at 5:25 in the third period. Stoney Creek tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kyle Ventura at 18:32 in the third period. Blanchard had two goals and one assist to lead the Generals. Blanchard scored the first of his two goals at 10:27 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Whitby. Matthew Reynolds assisted on the tally. Blanchard's next tally made the score 4-3 Stoney Creek with 17:23 left in overtime. Matt Smith picked up the assist. Stoney Creek put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Dunlops to score on any of their five power plays. Whitby was unable to stop the Generals from sending pucks towards the net, and Stoney Creek eventually piled up 59 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Stoney Creek additionally got points from Ryan Healy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Kyle Zettler also scored for Stoney Creek. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Nathan Pageau, Marc Madarasz, Jeff Leaist, and Jamie Visser, who each chipped in one. The Dunlops were held below their usual level of production. Whitby puts an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. The Dunlops forced the Generals goalie Daniel Svedin to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Whitby also got a goal from Brett McConnachie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Adam Van Dam, who had two and Martin Kearns and Chris Gour, who contributed one each. Svedin rejected 39 shots on goal for Stoney Creek. The Generals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jason Guy recorded 55 saves for Whitby. The Dunlops incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
