Norwood falls apart in second, loses to Stoney Creek, 9-4Asphodel-Norwood CC Sun, Oct 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Norwood Vipers was within striking distance after one period, but the Stoney Creek Generals put the pedal down in the second en route to a 9-4 victory. Stoney Creek got the win on the strength of a great game by Mike Ruberto, who had one goal and four assists. Ruberto scored 4:05 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Stoney Creek. Matthew Reynolds assisted on the tally. The Generals pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 56 penalty minutes. Stoney Creek forced Vipers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 60 shots and forcing 51 saves. David Ayres made 23 stops and Caydon Edwards made 28. The Generals' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Norwood power plays. Stoney Creek found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Generals average 5.3 goals per game. Stoney Creek also got points from Reynolds, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Nathan Pageau, who also had two goals and two assists, Marc Madarasz, who also racked up three goals and one assist, and Dennis Maxwell, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Jeff Leaist as well. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Tony Iaquinto, who had two and Greg O Neill and Cole McNeil, who contributed one each. Norwood's offense rang up 57 shots on Stoney Creek's net. The defensemen of the Vipers were also effective in the Generals' zone, and came away with two goals. Norwood was led by Mike Madgett, who registered two goals. Madgett scored the first of his two goals at 1:12 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Stoney Creek. Mike Hanna provided the assist. Madgett's next tally made the score 6-2 Stoney Creek with 15:56 left in the third period. Joe Curry assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Norwood included Darren Doherty and Ryan Toms, who scored one goal each. Daniel Svedin made 53 saves for Stoney Creek on 57 shots. The Generals registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Vipers ended with 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors.
