Nespor lifts M1 Minot State University over M1 Illinois / University of, 3-1

Brett Nespor had two goals to lead the M1 Minot State University Beavers to a 3-1 victory over the M1 Illinois / University of Fighting Illini.

Nespor scored at 8:56 into the second period to make the score 1-0 M1 Minot State University and again while 8:21 into the third to make the score 2-1 M1 Minot State University.

M1 Minot State University's Riley Hengen was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 35 saves and let only one puck past him. Hengen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.42 entering the contest.

The Beavers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three M1 Illinois / University of power plays. By firing 54 shots on goal, M1 Minot State University exceeded the 3.7 shots it averages per game this year.

M1 Minot State University also got a goal from Cole Olson as well. More assists for M1 Minot State University came via Jeremy Johnson, Sam Briscoe, Lyndon Lipinski, and Austin Yano, who contributed one each.

M1 Illinois / University of stifled the Beavers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Fighting Illini could not produce up to their normal offensive output. M1 Illinois / University of puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The Fighting Illini's offense rang up 36 shots on M1 Minot State University's net.

M1 Illinois / University of was led by Kyle Varzino, who scored the team's only goal. Varzino scored 3:35 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Jacob Matysiak provided the assist.

The Beavers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Joe Olen made 51 saves for the Fighting Illini on 54 shots. M1 Illinois / University of incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
