MISSISSAUGA shrugs off penalties, upends KINGSTON, 3-1

KINGSTON failed to take advantage of its power play opportunities and MISSISSAUGA shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

MISSISSAUGA was led by Natalie Marcuzzi, who grabbed one goal. Marcuzzi scored 7:28 into the third period to make the score 2-1 MISSISSAUGA. Kyra Colbert picked up the assist.

MISSISSAUGA forced KINGSTON's netminders to work all game long, taking 46 shots and forcing 43 saves. Brooke Madigan made 43 stops and Jensen Murphy made zero. MISSISSAUGA put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow KINGSTON to score on any of its six power plays. MISSISSAUGA could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

MISSISSAUGA additionally got points from Ashlee Lawrence, who also had one goal and one assist and Shana Walker, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, MISSISSAUGA received assists from Nadine Edney (A), Jacky Miller, and Brooke Bonsteel, who each chipped in one.

KINGSTON was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. KINGSTON surpassed its season average of 10.0 penalty minutes per game.

KINGSTON was led by Deena Birney, who scored the team's only goal. Birney scored 8:09 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ellie Conte provided the assist.

MISSISSAUGA's starting goalie, Lin Han, made 18 saves and finished with the win before she was taken out in favor of Isabelle Cropper, who stopped zero shots. MISSISSAUGA registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
