SOUTHWEST tried its best to erase a two-goal deficit, but BARRIE would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 2-1. BARRIE took a 2-0 lead during the third period, only to have SOUTHWEST storm back on a Sara Mayrand (C) goal 10:31 into the third period to pull to one goal down. BARRIE's Briar Hughes was a brick wall in net, as she came up with 42 saves and let only one puck past her. Hughes certainly lowered her goals against average, which was 3.33 entering the contest. BARRIE stifled SOUTHWEST's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. BARRIE was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes. BARRIE was helped by Danika Phillips, who finished with one goal. Phillips scored 9:54 into the third period to make the score 2-0 BARRIE. Kailyn Soers provided the assist. BARRIE also got a goal from Kara Washer (A) as well. More assists for BARRIE came via Reagan Kaufman and Michelle Morrison, who each chipped in one. SOUTHWEST's offense rang up 43 shots on BARRIE's net. In addition, SOUTHWEST received assists from Ashley Maitre and Muna Fadel, who contributed one each. BARRIE registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. SOUTHWEST's Hanna Slater stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that she faced. SOUTHWEST incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
