Mayagoitia Puente lifts M1 Mercyhurst University over M1 John Carroll University, 4-1

Behind a great game by Emilio Mayagoitia Puente, who had two goals, the M1 Mercyhurst University Lakers defeated the M1 John Carroll University Blue Streaks, 4-1.

Mayagoitia Puente found the back of the net 9:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 M1 Mercyhurst University and again while 12:57 into the first to make the score 2-0 M1 Mercyhurst University.

By firing 39 shots on goal, M1 Mercyhurst University exceeded the 2.3 shots it averages per game this year.

M1 Mercyhurst University also had goals scored by Patrick Dolan and Greg Marsch, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Mercyhurst University received assists from Jacob Grimm, who had two and Michal Smid, Matthew Bilski, Andrew George, and Kaleb Schwab, who each chipped in one.

M1 John Carroll University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lakers to score on any of their four power plays. The Blue Streaks could not produce up to their normal offensive output. M1 John Carroll University puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Blue Streaks put 18 shots on net during the contest, more than the 3.2 they average per game.

M1 John Carroll University was led by Logan Lopicka, who scored the team's only goal. Lopicka scored on the power play 1:41 into the second period to make the score 3-1 M1 Mercyhurst University. The Blue Streaks had gotten the advantage when M1 Mercyhurst University's Bilski was sent off for interference. Spencer Keglovic picked up the assist.

Nick George made 17 saves for the Lakers on 18 shots. M1 Mercyhurst University incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Matthew Russell recorded 35 saves for M1 John Carroll University. The Blue Streaks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
