OConnell's hat trick boosts M3-Widener University over M3-Mount Saint Marys University, 12-2

Brian OConnell lifted M3-Widener University to a 12-2 victory with a hat trick against M3-Mount Saint Marys University.

OConnell's first goal came 10:11 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:13 into the second and at 16:06 into the second.

M3-Widener University scored early and often, and held a 5-1 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

M3-Widener University forced M3-Mount Saint Marys University's goalies to work without much rest, ripping 100 shots and forcing 88 saves. Levi Bean made 65 stops and Justin Miskiel made 23. M3-Widener University excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. M3-Widener University surpassed its usual scoring output this season. M3-Widener University has scored at the pace of 6.2 goals per game during the current campaign. M3-Widener University's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in seven goals.

M3-Widener University also got points from Mike Tarquini, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and John Silverio, who also had one goal and one assist. M3-Widener University also had goals scored by Phillip Iaccarino and Joe Vattai, who each put in two and Troy Kraft and Jon Philip Filippello, who scored one goal each. In addition, M3-Widener University received assists from Mike Geddis, Matthew Reed, and Grant Litsinger, who each chipped in one and Antonio Borelli, Tim Leach, and Garrett Stratton, who contributed two each.

M3-Widener University's defense shut down M3-Mount Saint Marys University's forwards for much of the game, and M3-Mount Saint Marys University got off only nine shots during the contest.

M3-Mount Saint Marys University was led by Anthony Lerro, who tallied one goal and one assist. Lerro scored 19:19 into the first period to make the score 5-1 M3-Widener University. Ian Garrison provided the assist. M3-Mount Saint Marys University also got a goal from Matthew Powers as well. More assists for M3-Mount Saint Marys University came via Sean Gunn, who had one.

Michael Booth recorded seven saves for M3-Widener University. M3-Widener University incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. M3-Mount Saint Marys University ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
