M1 Davenport University uses early goal to top M1 Rochester College, 3-1Fraser Hockeyland Fri, Nov 07, 2014 Jordan Simmonds gave the M1 Davenport University Panthers the lead in the first period, and the M1 Rochester College Warriors was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1. M1 Davenport University took over the lead for good with a goal by Simmonds at 8:39 in the first period. A cross checking penalty on Sam Berry had put the Panthers on the power play. Kody Polin assisted on the tally.M1 Rochester College was stymied by M1 Davenport University's netminder Clayton Brown, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Brown certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.41 entering the contest. The Panthers' penalty kill excelled, as M1 Davenport University gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Panthers stifled the Warriors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 34 shots that M1 Davenport University put on net surpassed the Panthers' average of 5.1 shots per game this season. M1 Davenport University was helped by Andrew Frank, who racked up one goal. Frank scored 10:15 into the first period to make the score 2-0 M1 Davenport University. Mason Bohlinger provided the assist. Winston Hofer also scored for M1 Davenport University. In addition, M1 Davenport University received assists from Aaron Beally, who had one. M1 Rochester College did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Warriors average 3.9 goals per game. M1 Rochester College was led by Josh Foster, who scored the team's only goal. Foster scored 14:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 M1 Davenport University. Brock Malatches assisted on the tally. The Panthers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Warriors' Zakk Olvin stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. M1 Rochester College incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
