M1 Rochester College uses shootout to best M1 Duquesne University, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Rochester College Warriors defeated the M1 Duquesne University Dukes in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. M1 Duquesne University got a shootout goal from Nolan Trombetta. In addition to the clincher, M1 Rochester College got a shootout goal from George Holt.

The Warriors overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. M1 Rochester College trailed 3-2 after a goal by the Dukes' James Pozycki at 11:44 in the third period. The Warriors tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jake Zarzycki at 18:06 in the third period.

M1 Rochester College kept M1 Duquesne University's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Dginto made 37 saves on 41 shots.

The Warriors were helped by Holt, who had one goal. Holt scored on the power play 7:10 into the third period to make the score 2-2. M1 Rochester College earned a power play opportunity when Christian Wirginis was put in the box for tripping. Doug Lindensmith picked up the assist. Josh Foster also scored for M1 Rochester College. In addition, M1 Rochester College received assists from Dakota Olvin, who had two and Joshua Botimer and Spencer Ashby, who each chipped in one.

With 33 shots on target during the contest, the Dukes exceeded the 2.0 shots they average per game this year.

M1 Duquesne University was helped by Trombetta, who registered one goal. Trombetta scored on the power play 17:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 M1 Duquesne University. A tripping penalty on Joey Giordano had put the Dukes on the power play. Zak Kindya provided the assist. M1 Duquesne University also got a goal from Michael Iannello as well. More assists for M1 Duquesne University came via Brett Reagan, Josh Hetz, and Zack Richey, who contributed one each.

Zakk Olvin recorded 30 saves for the Warriors. M1 Rochester College incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. M1 Duquesne University incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
