M1 Rochester College uses shootout to best M1 Western Michigan University, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Rochester College Warriors defeated the M1 Western Michigan University Stallions in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

M1 Rochester College overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Warriors trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by M1 Western Michigan University's Mike Moroso at 1:26 in the third period. M1 Rochester College tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Joey Giordano at 18:13 in the third period.

The Warriors were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. M1 Rochester College had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Stallions were unable to stop the Warriors from sending pucks towards the net, and M1 Rochester College eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Warriors got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

M1 Rochester College was helped by Alex Kopek, who racked up one goal. Kopek scored 14:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. George Holt assisted on the tally. M1 Rochester College additionally got points from Dakota Olvin, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, M1 Rochester College received assists from Joshua Botimer, Matt Kadolph, and Kyle Truscott, who contributed one each.

M1 Western Michigan University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Warriors to score on any of their four power plays. The Stallions forced M1 Rochester College goalie Zakk Olvin to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. M1 Western Michigan University could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Other players who recorded assists for M1 Western Michigan University were Mitch Rogowski, Jesse Cameron, Jacob Taiariol, and Brandon Grillo, who each chipped in one.

Olvin rejected 34 shots on goal for the Warriors. Brandon Haase recorded 27 saves for the Stallions. M1 Western Michigan University registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
