Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Illinois / University of Fighting Illini defeated the M1 Michigan-Dearborn / Univ of Wolverines in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

M1 Illinois / University of overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Fighting Illini fell behind 4-2 after a goal by M1 Michigan-Dearborn / Univ of's Ryan Kelly at 9:13 in the third period. M1 Illinois / University of tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Josh Belmont at 18:48 in the third period.

The Fighting Illini stifled the Wolverines' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. M1 Illinois / University of's offense was clicking better than usual and put 40 shots on goal during the game, better than the 2.0 shots per game it averages.
