The M1 Western Michigan University Stallions tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the M1 Oakland University Golden Grizzlies held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Ian Jacobs put M1 Oakland University up 5-3 in the third period, but M1 Western Michigan University pulled to within one on Jesse Cameron's tally 17:59 into the third period.

The Golden Grizzlies got the win thanks to a great game by Andrew Parus, who had two goals and one assist. Parus scored the first of his two goals at 5:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Tom Kilgore provided the assist. Parus' next tally made the score 4-3 M1 Oakland University with 19:56 left in the third period. Michael Mackinnon picked up the assist.

M1 Oakland University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Stallions to score on any of their seven power plays. The Golden Grizzlies forced M1 Western Michigan University goalie Anthony Benvenuti to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

M1 Oakland University also got points from Jacobs, who also had one goal and one assist. M1 Oakland University also had goals scored by William Balent and Matt Stirling, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Oakland University were John Baker, who had two and Ryan Rotondi and Will Shier, who contributed one each.

The Stallions excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. M1 Western Michigan University's offense was clicking better than usual and put 37 shots on goal during the game, better than the 1.9 shot per game it averages.

The Stallions were helped by Zach Mudge, who racked up one goal. Mudge scored 15:39 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Niko Michos assisted on the tally. M1 Western Michigan University additionally got points from Mitch Rogowski, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cameron, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. M1 Western Michigan University also got a goal from Mike Moroso as well. More assists for M1 Western Michigan University came via Jared Vincek, Ryan Adams, Cameron Carson, and Andrew Holder, who each chipped in one.

Corey Hrischuk made 33 saves for M1 Oakland University on 37 shots. The Golden Grizzlies incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. M1 Western Michigan University's Benvenuti stopped 37 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Stallions incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
