M1 Oakland University uses shootout to best M1 Davenport University, 8-7 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Oakland University Golden Grizzlies defeated the M1 Davenport University Panthers in a shootout 8-7 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. M1 Oakland University's other shootout goal was scored by Will Shier.

The Golden Grizzlies saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. M1 Oakland University made the score 7-5 on a goal by Ryan Rotondi at 13:24 in the third period. M1 Davenport University evened things up at 7-7 on a goal by Kody Polin at 16:55 in the third period.

The Golden Grizzlies pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 32 penalty minutes.

M1 Oakland University's goal total was higher than its season average. The Golden Grizzlies have scored at the pace of 5.0 goals per game during the current campaign. M1 Oakland University's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Golden Grizzlies were helped by John Baker, who registered one goal. Baker scored 13:34 into the second period to make the score 4-3 M1 Oakland University. Patrick Smiatacz assisted on the tally. M1 Oakland University additionally got points from Michael Mackinnon, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Matt Stirling, who also had one goal and one assist, and William Kocher, who also racked up one goal and one assist. M1 Oakland University also had goals scored by Shier and Kyle Nelson, who scored one goal each. The Panthers were helped by Jordan Simmonds, who registered three goals and one assist. M1 Davenport University also got points from Polin, who also tallied three goals and one assist. Andrew Frank also scored for M1 Davenport University. In addition, M1 Davenport University received assists from Matt Ogden and Chris Ballatore, who contributed one each and Cody Walsh and Winston Hofer, who each chipped in two.

Corey Hrischuk rejected 47 shots on goal for M1 Oakland University. The Golden Grizzlies registered three goals on six power play opportunities. M1 Davenport University's Matt Kaludis stopped 19 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Panthers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
