M1 Davenport University beats M1 Lindenwood University 4-3 after comeback scare

The M1 Lindenwood University Lions tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the M1 Davenport University Panthers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Cody Walsh put M1 Davenport University up 4-2 in the third period, but M1 Lindenwood University pulled to within one on Peppi Sipila's tally 14:26 into the third period.

The Panthers were led by Walsh, who registered one goal. Walsh scored 14:18 into the third period to make the score 4-2 M1 Davenport University. Everett Thompson provided the assist.

M1 Davenport University racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 21 shots on goal, M1 Davenport University exceeded the 2.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Panthers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

M1 Davenport University additionally got points from Thompson, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. M1 Davenport University also had goals scored by Chris Eckler and Winston Hofer, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Davenport University received assists from Tyler Ploeg, Matt Ogden, Cody Mathieu, and Mason Bohlinger, who each chipped in one.

The Lions forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game M1 Lindenwood University had been spending in the box. The Lions put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M1 Davenport University to score on any of its three power plays.

M1 Lindenwood University was led by Rock Einersen, who had two goals. Einersen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 M1 Davenport University. The Lions had gained a power play chance when Luke Mccarthy was whistled for slashing. Michael Lozano assisted on the tally. Einersen's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 M1 Davenport University with 6:58 left in the third period. Brandon Rumble provided the assist. More assists for M1 Lindenwood University came via Graham Zagrodney, who had two and Mitchell Riese and Adam Newkirk, who contributed one each.

Clayton Brown rejected 20 shots on goal for the Panthers. Cody Karpinski made 17 saves for M1 Lindenwood University on 19 shots. The Lions registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
