M3-Aurora University-Blue beats M3-McKendree University 6-5 after comeback scare

M3-McKendree University tried to dig itself out of a six-goal hole, but M3-Aurora University-Blue held on for a 6-5 victory.

M3-Aurora University-Blue made the score 6-0 on a goal by Kyle Pierce at 7:01 in the second period, and M3-McKendree University got as close as 6-5 when Ethan Gremminger scored 13:31 into the third period.

By firing 38 shots on goal, M3-Aurora University-Blue exceeded the 2.4 shots it averages per game this year.

M3-Aurora University-Blue was helped by Bryce Stenstrom, who grabbed one goal. Stenstrom scored 15:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 M3-Aurora University-Blue. Vincent Palermo picked up the assist. M3-Aurora University-Blue also had goals scored by Tyler Lesage, Anthony Palermo, Billy Dwyer, and Greg Shelonzek, who each put in one. More assists for M3-Aurora University-Blue came via Anthony Rohde, who had two and Gavin Carlson, Shane Brown, Stephen Kreusch, and Ben Stachowiak, who each chipped in one.

M3-McKendree University kept M3-Aurora University-Blue's goalie busy throughout the game, and William Rohleder made 45 saves on 50 shots. M3-McKendree University struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 46 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

M3-McKendree University was helped by Jacob Young, who registered one goal. Young scored 6:33 into the third period to make the score 6-4 M3-Aurora University-Blue. Jason Beilke provided the assist. M3-McKendree University additionally got points from Beilke, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for M3-McKendree University included Elliot Emann and Dylan Mueth, who scored one goal each. In addition, M3-McKendree University received assists from Austin Graf, who had two and Jacob Schlote, Nicholas Harries, and Ryan Sizer, who contributed one each.

M3-Aurora University-Blue incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Trevor Klostermann took the loss and made 20 saves before being replaced by Chris Stier who made 12 saves. M3-McKendree University registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Sizer and Steven Csanyi were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
