Leamington penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of St. Marys

The St. Marys Lincolns failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Leamington Flyers shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Leamington kept St. Marys' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Beattie made 37 saves on 42 shots. The Flyers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 22 penalty minutes.

Leamington was helped by Kyle Perkowski, who registered one goal. Perkowski scored 11:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Matthew Opblinger assisted on the tally. Leamington additionally got points from J.P. Grineau, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Opblinger, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Mitchell Amante, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Joe Ogden also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Ryan Muzzin, Tyler Duarte, and Kyle Quick, who contributed one each.

The Lincolns were helped by Graham Brulotte, who registered one goal. Brulotte scored on the power play 14:20 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Leamington. St. Marys had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Quick got sent off for boarding. Matt Trudel picked up the assist. St. Marys also got a goal from Evan Krassey as well. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Sean O`Brien and Jared Lindsay, who each chipped in one.

Michael Barrett rejected 18 shots on goal for Leamington. The Flyers registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Leamington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jacob McGhee was ejected from the game. The Lincolns totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For St. Marys, Matt McGall was ejected from the game.
