Leamington shrugs off penalties, upends Sarnia, 5-2

The Leamington Flyers' penalty kill was superb, as Leamington survived multiple penalties to beat the Sarnia Legionnaires, 5-2.

The Flyers were paced by Eric Henderson, who had one goal and one assist. Henderson scored on the power play 9:03 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Leamington. Leamington earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Fogarty was put in the box for high sticking. Kyle Perkowski assisted on the tally.

The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Leamington kept Sarnia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Masters made 32 saves on 37 shots.

Leamington additionally got points from Thomas Virban, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Leamington also got a goal from Kyle Quick as well. In addition, Leamington received assists from J.P. Grineau, Ryan Shipley, Mitchell Amante, and Zak Parlette, who contributed one each.

The Legionnaires could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Sarnia averages 4.5 goals per game.

The Legionnaires were helped by Tyler Prong, who racked up one goal. Prong scored 1:32 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Davis Boyer picked up the assist. Sarnia also got points from Boyer, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Ryan Vendramin, Nathan Mater, and Kyler Keating, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers' Trevor Wheaton stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Leamington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Sarnia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
