Leamington outlasts Strathroy, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Leamington Flyers escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Strathroy Rockets.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Eric Henderson at 7:45 of the third period.

Leamington got the win on the strength of a great game by Henderson, who had one goal and two assists.

The Flyers' penalty kill excelled, as Leamington gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:05 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Leamington surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flyers kept Strathroy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mat Ouellet made 40 saves on 44 shots.

Leamington also had goals scored by Tyler Duarte, Chris Scott, and Kyle Quick, who each put in one. In addition, Leamington received assists from Ryan Shipley, Joe Ogden, Zack Guilbeault, and Mitchell Amante, who contributed one each.

Leamington was unable to stop the Rockets from sending pucks towards the net, and Strathroy eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Rockets were led by Stuart King, who grabbed one goal and one assist. King scored 38 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brett Dalton picked up the assist. Strathroy also got a goal from Joey Seney as well. More assists for Strathroy came via Kurtis Sander, who had one.

Michael Barrett made 30 saves for the Flyers on 32 shots. Leamington registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Ryan Muzzin, Blaine Bechard, and Guilbeault were ejected from the contest. Strathroy ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Rockets, Matt Knight-Bedour was ejected from the game.
