GAME RECAP

Stratford uses shootout to best Elmira, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Allman Arena    Fri, Jan 16, 2015

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Stratford Cullitons defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams.

Stratford saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Cullitons made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Justin Graham at 19:52 in the second period. Elmira evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Ethan Skinner at 13:36 in the third period.

The Sugar Kings' power play was ineffective against Stratford's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Cullitons kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Reinhart made 40 saves on 44 shots.

Stratford also had goals scored by Shane O Brien and Tyson Baker, who each put in one. In addition, Stratford received assists from Jared Nash, Jake Pleon, Patrick McKelvie, Hayden Broomhead, Zach Van Louwe, and Mitch Vandergunst, who each chipped in one.

Stratford was unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Mitch Wright, who grabbed one goal. Wright scored 9:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Elmira. Cash Seraphim picked up the assist. Klayton Hoelscher also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Mitch Klie, Mac Clutsam, and Zac Coulter, who contributed one each.
