Duarte leads Leamington over London, 6-3

Behind a great game by Tyler Duarte, who had two goals and one assist, the Leamington Flyers defeated the London Nationals, 6-3.

Duarte scored at 39 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 London and again while 16:37 into the second to make the score 3-2 Leamington.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:16 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Leamington was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Leamington forced London's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Connor Hughes made 16 stops and Justin Tugwell made 19.

Leamington also had goals scored by Eric Henderson, Zack Guilbeault, Chris Scott, and Travis Campbell, who scored one goal each. More assists for Leamington came via Matthew Opblinger, who had two and Jacob McGhee, Cale Phibbs, Colin Moore, Alex Friesen, Kyle Quick, and Kyle Perkowski, who each chipped in one.

The Nationals' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game London had been spending in the box. The Nationals kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Trevor Wheaton made 32 saves on 35 shots. London was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

The Nationals were led by Austin Kemp, who registered one goal and one assist. Kemp scored 11:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 London. John Warren picked up the assist. Others who scored for London included Derek Todosichuk and Rai Di Loreto, who each put in one. In addition, London received assists from Anthony Kotsovos, Scott Goodman, and Drew Worrad, who contributed one each.

Leamington registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Quick and Thomas Virban were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For London, Derek Di Iorio and Kevin Madden were ejected from the contest.
