Guelph penalty kill dominates in 3-0 defeat of Brantford

The Guelph Hurricanes' penalty kill was superb, as Guelph survived multiple penalties to beat the Brantford 99ers, 3-0.

The Hurricanes were led by Mackenzie Flewelling, who registered one goal. Flewelling scored 19:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. Patrick Kudla provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:53 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Guelph was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 62 minutes in penalty time. The Hurricanes had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Guelph excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Brantford was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

Guelph also got points from Brooker Muir, who also had one goal and one assist. Chad Herron also scored for Guelph. In addition, Guelph received assists from Peyton Backus, who had one and Craig Martini, who had two.

The 99ers' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and three majors for 69 minutes in penalty time. Brantford surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The 99ers were held below their usual level of production. Brantford puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

The Hurricanes' Jason DaSilva stopped 21 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Guelph registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Jake Wyse and Muir were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Jack Moylan rejected 46 shots on goal for the 99ers. For Brantford, Nolan Ferris, Gus Ford, Paris Briscoe, and Ryon Pereira were ejected from the contest.
