Niagara Falls survives Ancaster comeback, wins 5-3

The Ancaster Avalanche tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Niagara Falls Canucks held on for a 5-3 victory.

Niagara Falls made the score 5-1 on a goal by Austin Wright at 5:56 in the third period, and Ancaster got as close as 5-3 when Ryan Cox scored 19:49 into the third period.

Wright was all over the ice for the Canucks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Wright scored the first of his two goals at 18:24 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Niagara Falls. Zack Lansfield picked up the assist. Wright's next tally made the score 5-1 Niagara Falls with 14:04 left in the third period.

Niagara Falls' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 13 minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Niagara Falls' penalty kill managed to stymie the Avalanche's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Niagara Falls also got points from Lansfield, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Colton Anstey, who also registered one goal and one assist. Niagara Falls also got a goal from Mac Hollowell as well. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Frank Pucci, Kevin Millejours, and Nigel Slade, who each chipped in one.

Ancaster forced the Canucks goalie Dylan Pietrangelo to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Spencer Leenders also scored for Ancaster. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Marcus Baird, Lucas Pozzobon, Michael Faliero, Owen Burnell, and Ben Hughes, who contributed one each.

Dylan Pietrangelo made 44 saves for Niagara Falls on 47 shots. The Canucks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Niagara Falls, Millejours and Sean Farquharson were ejected from the contest. Blake Richard rejected 20 shots on goal for the Avalanche. Ancaster ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Avalanche ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cooper Richards was ejected from the game.
