Welland holds on for 4-2 win against Fort Erie

The Fort Erie Meteors tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Welland Jr. Canadians held on for a 4-2 victory.

A goal by Thomas Flack put Welland up 4-0 in the second period, but Fort Erie pulled to within two on Richard DeMarco's tally 18:38 into the third period.

Mitch Reid had a great game for the Jr. Canadians, netting two goals. Reid found the back of the net 9:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland and again while on the power play 5:58 into the second to make the score 3-0 Welland.

Welland's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Canadians surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, Welland received assists from Tyler Stranges, who had two and Matt Cuglietta, Nathan MacDuff, Gabe Ruggi, and Jake Shaw, who contributed one each.

The Meteors' offense rang up 35 shots on Welland's net. Team could not crack the Jr. Canadians' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Delcan Conway also scored for Fort Erie. More assists for Fort Erie came via Devin Darrah, Holden Garlent, and Romaeo D Intino, who each chipped in one.

Chris Janzen made 33 saves for Welland on 35 shots. The Jr. Canadians registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Welland, JC Thivierge and Damien Lalonde were ejected from the contest. Liam Conway rejected 25 shots on goal for Fort Erie. The Meteors ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's Bryce Martin and Dakota Miskolczi were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
