Salt Lake City Moose beats Colorado Eagles 4-3 after comeback scare

Salt Lake City Moose survived a determined comeback attempt by Colorado Eagles on the way to a 4-3 win.

Salt Lake City Moose made the score 3-0 on a goal by Brett Howard at 9:02 in the second period, and Colorado Eagles got as close as 3-2 when Scott Smoot scored 2:05 into the third period.

In a losing effort, Colorado Eagles was led by Riley Roberts, who had two goals. Roberts scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Salt Lake City Moose. Colorado Eagles had taken the advantage when Salt Lake City Moose's Jurijs Moiseicenko got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Brad Campbell picked up the assist. Roberts' next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Salt Lake City Moose with 12:23 left in the third period. Colorado Eagles had gained a power play chance when Brian Crink was whistled for delay of game. Levi Weber assisted on the tally.

Penalties took their toll on Salt Lake City Moose, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals.

Salt Lake City Moose was helped by Jacob McMullen, who finished with one goal. McMullen scored 3:23 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Salt Lake City Moose. Ross Gann picked up the assist. Salt Lake City Moose also had goals scored by Charlie Granath and Erik Ahlen, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Salt Lake City Moose were Brett Myer, Patrick OBryan, and Dan Veselovsky, who contributed one each.

Colorado Eagles forced Salt Lake City Moose goalie Brad Robertson to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Colorado Eagles' penalty kill unit could not stop Salt Lake City Moose's power play, which converted on two of three opportunities.

In addition, Colorado Eagles received assists from MacGregor Haddon and Brad Pershing, who each chipped in one.

Brad Robertson made 35 saves for Salt Lake City Moose on 38 shots. Salt Lake City Moose incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Colorado Eagles took out Breandan Colgan after he had made 11 saves and installed Quinn Wold in goal, where he finished with five saves and the loss. Colorado Eagles incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
