Butte Cobras falls to Whitefish Wolverines in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Whitefish Wolverines pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over Butte Cobras on a clutch goal by Aleksei Garin.

Whitefish Wolverines was led by Garin, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Garin scored on the power play 3:34 into to make the score 4-3 Whitefish Wolverines. Whitefish Wolverines had gotten the advantage when Butte Cobras' Dzmitry Daniliuk was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Danny Roe assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, Butte Cobras was sparked by Kevin Philbin, who grabbed two goals. Philbin scored the first of his two goals at 2:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Whitefish Wolverines. PJ Silveria picked up the assist. Philbin's next tally made the score 2-2 with 15:26 left in the third period. James Kilgore provided the assist.

Whitefish Wolverines put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Butte Cobras to score on any of its five power plays. Whitefish Wolverines kept Butte Cobras' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justin Keener made 39 saves on 43 shots.

Whitefish Wolverines also got points from Chris Cutshall, who also registered one goal and one assist and Roe, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Whitefish Wolverines also got a goal from Ian Wiens as well. Other players who recorded assists for Whitefish Wolverines were Brett Fernandez, Josh Schur, Evan Carter, and Richard Mulligan, who contributed one each.

Butte Cobras forced Whitefish Wolverines goalie Brendan Duff to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Butte Cobras struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Whitefish Wolverines to score three power play goals on four chances.

Nikita Polishchuk also scored for Butte Cobras. In addition, Butte Cobras received assists from Ethan Cooney, Derick Brehm, and Noakes Gordon, who each chipped in one.

Duff recorded 32 saves for Whitefish Wolverines. Whitefish Wolverines incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Butte Cobras incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
