Ontario Avalanche erases deficit to stun San Diego, 6-5

Ontario Avalanche climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat San Diego, 6-5.

Ontario Avalanche never led in the game until netting the game winner. Ontario Avalanche trailed 4-2 after a goal by San Diego's Alec Barre at 14:02 in the second period. Ontario Avalanche tied things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Filip Masek at 3:09 in the third period. Ontario Avalanche scored the game winner at 18:58 in the third period on a goal by Masek.

Ontario Avalanche was paced on offense by Zechariah Roberts and Antoine Maillard, who combined for seven points. Roberts finished with one goal and three assists and Maillard also notched one goal and two assists.

Ontario Avalanche excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. San Diego was unable to stop Ontario Avalanche from sending pucks towards the net, and Ontario Avalanche eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Ontario Avalanche also got points from Adam Plonski, who also registered one goal and one assist, Maillard, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Marc Janisch, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Ontario Avalanche received assists from Matthew Ettinger, who had one and Austin Lechtanski and Andrew Guzman, who contributed two each.

San Diego forced Ontario Avalanche goalie Chris Skeates to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

San Diego was led by Sebastian Gruhler, who finished with two goals. Gruhler scored the first of his two goals at 3:49 into the second period to make the score 3-1 San Diego. Cameron Todd picked up the assist. Gruhler's next tally made the score 5-4 San Diego with 2:20 left in the second period. Tyler Kubara provided the assist. Others who scored for San Diego included Joel Gellvear and Bobby Campbell, who each put in one. More assists for San Diego came via Kacey Walker, who had two and Nikita Velmakin, Felix Morin, and Ustin Molochkov, who each chipped in one.

Skeates rejected 36 shots on goal for Ontario Avalanche. Ontario Avalanche totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Ilya Alyakin made 25 saves for San Diego on 31 shots. San Diego incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
