GAME RECAP

Ontario Avalanche rips San Diego, 3-0

Iceoplex    Sat, Nov 15, 2014

Ontario Avalanche had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 3-0 win over San Diego.

Ontario Avalanche got the win thanks to a great game by Antoine Maillard, who had one goal and two assists. Maillard scored on the power play 10:28 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ontario Avalanche. Ontario Avalanche had gotten the advantage when San Diego's Alec Barre was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Adam Plonski picked up the assist.

San Diego's power play was ineffective against Ontario Avalanche's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Ontario Avalanche racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Ontario Avalanche had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ontario Avalanche put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow San Diego to score on any of its six power plays.

Ontario Avalanche also had goals scored by Basil Reynolds and Michael Thomas, who each put in one. In addition, Ontario Avalanche received assists from Jackson Giammona, Paul Ramsey, and Zechariah Roberts, who contributed one each.

San Diego forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game San Diego had been spending in the box. San Diego was held below its usual level of production. San Diego averages 3.7 goals per game.

Ontario Avalanche's Mitchell Privett stopped 19 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Ontario Avalanche registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Jokaim Jutras made 27 saves for San Diego on 30 shots.
