Fresno Monsters squeaks by Ontario Avalanche, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Fresno Monsters escaped with a 4-2 victory over Ontario Avalanche.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Gianmarco Guidon's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Fresno Monsters' penalty kill excelled, as Fresno Monsters gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Fresno Monsters was sparked by Guidon, who racked up one goal. Guidon scored 16:41 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Fresno Monsters.

Fresno Monsters racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Fresno Monsters had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game. Fresno Monsters' offense operated below its season average. Fresno Monsters puts an average of 7.3 pucks into the net per game. Ontario Avalanche was unable to stop Fresno Monsters from sending pucks towards the net, and Fresno Monsters eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Fresno Monsters also had goals scored by Dan Fitzgerald, Evan Ingram, and Owen Sikich, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Fresno Monsters were Mike Nolan, who had two and Mark Shroyer and Michael Freeman, who each chipped in one.

Ontario Avalanche was held below its usual level of production. Ontario Avalanche averages 4.3 goals per game. Ontario Avalanche found itself short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Ontario Avalanche was helped by Paul Ramsey, who had one goal. Ramsey scored on the power play 13:43 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Ontario Avalanche had gained a power play chance when Fitzgerald was whistled for checking from behind. Antoine Maillard picked up the assist. Michael Thomas also scored for Ontario Avalanche. In addition, Ontario Avalanche received assists from Jackson Giammona, Adam Plonski, and Zechariah Roberts, who contributed one each.

Austin Piquette made 20 saves for Fresno Monsters on 22 shots. For Fresno Monsters, Fitzgerald was ejected from the game. Mitchell Privett rejected 27 shots on goal for Ontario Avalanche.
