Southern Oregon Spartans' Creighton deadly on offense in 4-1 win against Whitefish Wolverines

Southern Oregon Spartans relied on the scoring touch of Denis Creighton, who netted two goals, to beat Whitefish Wolverines, 4-1.

Creighton's tallies came at 2:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Southern Oregon Spartans and on the power play 13:56 into the first to make the score 2-1 Southern Oregon Spartans.

Southern Oregon Spartans' Tymen Edelkoort III was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 48 saves and let only one puck past him. Edelkoort III managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.79 prior to the game.

Southern Oregon Spartans pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 37 penalty minutes.

Southern Oregon Spartans forced Whitefish Wolverines goalie Joakim Hidestrand to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Southern Oregon Spartans took advantage of Whitefish Wolverines' penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities.

Southern Oregon Spartans additionally got points from Jonathon Lovelace, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Mackenzie Wood, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Oregon Spartans were Anton Ivehed, Doug Gutierrez, and Luke Fraser, who each chipped in one.

Whitefish Wolverines' offense rang up 49 shots on Southern Oregon Spartans' net. Whitefish Wolverines' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Whitefish Wolverines finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Whitefish Wolverines was led by Kieffer Helbing, who scored the team's only goal. Helbing scored on the power play 9:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Whitefish Wolverines had gained a power play chance when Drew Carriere was whistled for high sticking. Aleksei Garin picked up the assist.

For Southern Oregon Spartans, Marcus Miller was ejected from the game. Hidestrand recorded 27 saves for Whitefish Wolverines. Whitefish Wolverines registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities.
