Las Vegas Storm hangs on, beats San Diego Gulls 3-2

Nikita Larionov scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and Las Vegas Storm held off the challenges of San Diego Gulls in a tough 3-2 win.

Las Vegas Storm took over the lead for good with a goal by Larionov at 10:22 in the first period. Las Vegas Storm had gotten the advantage when San Diego Gulls' Kacey Walker was sent off for tripping. Alkhas Kochkarev provided the assist.

San Diego Gulls' power play was ineffective against Las Vegas Storm's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Las Vegas Storm was led by Kyle Pacheco, who tallied one goal. Pacheco scored short handed 2:13 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Las Vegas Storm. Braxton Davis picked up the assist.

Las Vegas Storm was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Las Vegas Storm surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Las Vegas Storm forced San Diego Gulls goalie Brody Cavataio to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Arrigo Burgener also scored for Las Vegas Storm. In addition, Las Vegas Storm received assists from Vincent Dekumbis, who had one.

San Diego Gulls forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. San Diego Gulls had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. San Diego Gulls kept Las Vegas Storm's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dennis Busch made 40 saves on 42 shots.

San Diego Gulls was helped by Ustin Molochkov, who grabbed one goal. Molochkov scored on the power play 16:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Las Vegas Storm. San Diego Gulls earned a power play opportunity when Richard Prekop was put in the box for interference. Will Parker assisted on the tally. San Diego Gulls also got a goal from Nurbek Baltayev as well. More assists for San Diego Gulls came via Keegan Evangelista and Sergei Merzlov, who each chipped in one.

Las Vegas Storm registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Las Vegas Storm, Felix Brunner was ejected from the game. Cavataio recorded 28 saves for San Diego Gulls.
