Springfield Express pulls away in second, rolls over Wichita Jr. Thunder, 9-2

Springfield Express scored four goals in the second period to pull away from Wichita Jr. Thunder and clinch a 9-2 win.

Springfield Express was led by Derek Smith, who finished with one goal and one assist. Smith scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield Express. Tobias Sjolund picked up the assist.

Springfield Express forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Springfield Express surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Springfield Express forced Wichita Jr. Thunder's goaltenders to work between the pipes, totaling 54 shots and forcing 45 saves. Jake Larson made 35 stops and Cooper Blaine made 10. Springfield Express found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Springfield Express has scored at the pace of 6.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Springfield Express' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Wichita Jr. Thunder was led by Alex Smith, who registered one goal and one assist. Smith scored on the power play 7:59 into the third period to make the score 8-2 Springfield Express. Wichita Jr. Thunder had gotten the advantage when Springfield Express' Alamaa was sent off for roughing. John Pierce assisted on the tally. Ivan Brvenik also scored for Wichita Jr. Thunder. In addition, Wichita Jr. Thunder received assists from Matej Porzer and Peter Cicmanec, who contributed one each.

Oliver Eklund made 27 saves for Springfield Express on 29 shots. Springfield Express registered two goals on two power play opportunities. For Springfield Express, Ensor was ejected from the game. Wichita Jr. Thunder ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
