Columbus falls to Louisiana in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Cajundome Thu, Mar 26, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators' Jake Hauswirth scored 2:13 into overtime to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 3-2 (OT). In the losing effort, Columbus was sparked by Shawn Bates, who tallied two goals. Bates scored the first of his two goals at 8:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Kyle Thomas assisted on the tally. Bates' next tally made the score 2-2 with 1:40 left in the third period. Bryce Williamson picked up the assist. In a losing effort, the Cottonmouths were paced by Bates, who finished with two goals. Louisiana managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The IceGators ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. With 26 shots on target during the contest, Louisiana exceeded the 20.1 shots it averages per game this year. Louisiana also had goals scored by Benjamin Rubin and Chris Wilson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Dan Cornell, Shawn McNeil, Matt Viola, and Jeremy Boyer, who contributed one each. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Louis Belisle and Neilsson Arcibal, who each chipped in one. Scott Diebold rejected 27 shots on goal for the IceGators. Louisiana registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Andrew Loewen recorded 23 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors and had no power play opportunities.
