Fayetteville beats Huntsville 4-3 after comeback scare

The Huntsville Havoc tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Fayetteville FireAntz would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Austin Daae put Fayetteville up 4-1 in the third period, but Huntsville pulled to within one on Luke Greiner's tally 15:32 into the third period.

The FireAntz were helped by Chad Hohmann, who had one goal. Hohmann scored 8:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fayetteville. Derek Elliott picked up the assist. Fayetteville additionally got points from Elliott, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Peter LaFosse also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Mike Kavanagh, Matt Robertson, Corey Tamblyn, Trever Hertz, Kyle McNeil, and Jan Safar, who contributed one each.

The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The 45 shots that Huntsville put on net surpassed the Havoc's average of 18.2 shots per game this season.

Huntsville was helped by Jacob Johnstone, who grabbed one goal. Johnstone scored 4:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Fayetteville. Robert Davis provided the assist. Huntsville also got points from Jarred Mohr, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Hunter Brown, Dave Williams, Ray Ortiz, and Bobby Barrett, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Murdock made 42 saves for Fayetteville on 45 shots. The FireAntz incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jesse Kallechy recorded 17 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
