Nick Larson scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Pensacola Ice Flyers picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (3-2 SO) win over the Columbus Cottonmouths. The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Columbus' shootout goals were scored by Bryce Williamson and Neilsson Arcibal. In addition to the clincher, Pensacola got shootout goals from Nick McParland and Brett Lutes.The Ice Flyers came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pensacola trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by the Cottonmouths' Levi Lind at 15:44 in the first period. The Ice Flyers knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by McParland at 17:14 in the third period. Pensacola was led by Adam Pawlick, who grabbed one goal. Pawlick scored 19 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-3 Columbus. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Flyers exceeded the 23.4 shots they average per game this year. Pensacola also had goals scored by Lutes and Brett Beebe, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pensacola came via Nick Lazorko and Brandon Blair, who each chipped in one. Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pensacola to score on any of its four power plays. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 28.8 shots they average per game this year. Columbus was led by Shawn Bates, who finished with one goal and two assists. Bates scored short handed 19:22 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Columbus. The Cottonmouths were on a disadvantage when Lind went off the ice for roughing. Louis Belisle picked up the assist. Columbus also got points from Lind, who also had one goal and one assist and Nick Curry, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Andy Willigar also scored for Columbus. The Ice Flyers took out John McLean after he had made 12 saves and installed Max Strang in goal, where he finished with 22 saves and the win. Pensacola incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Andrew Loewen recorded 26 saves for Columbus. The Cottonmouths incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
