Thomas' goals lift Mississippi RiverKings to 2-1 victory over Fayetteville

Mississippi RiverKings relied on the scoring touch of Leo Thomas, who netted two goals, to beat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 2-1.

Thomas scored at 12:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings and again while 9:29 into the third to make the score 2-1 Mississippi RiverKings.

With 37 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 27.5 shots it averages per game this year.

More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Mike Grace, Linden Bahm, Matt Whitehead, and Andrew Randazzo, who contributed one each.

Fayetteville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mississippi RiverKings to score on any of its three power plays. The FireAntz relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Derek Elliott, Peter LaFosse and Matt Robertson took 11 of the team's 21 shots.

Fayetteville was led by Mike Montrose, who scored the team's only goal. Montrose scored 3:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Chad Hohmann picked up the assist.

Peter Di Salvo made 20 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 21 shots. Mississippi RiverKings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The FireAntz's Kevin Murdock stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Fayetteville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
