The Knoxville Ice Bears and the Louisiana IceGators both failed to score in overtime, but Knoxville won the game 3-2 (1-0 SO) after Ryan Salvis's deciding goal in the shootout. The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.The Ice Bears overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Knoxville was down 2-1 after a goal by Louisiana's Shawn McNeil at 15:53 in the second period. The Ice Bears tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Dennis Sicard at 16:58 in the third period. Knoxville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 26 shots on goal during the game, better than the 15.4 shots per game it averages. Jake Johnson also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Robbie Donahoe, Lou Educate, and Matthew Paton, who each chipped in one. The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. By firing 31 shots on goal, Louisiana exceeded the 18.8 shots it averages per game this year. The IceGators were helped by Jake Hauswirth, who had one goal. Hauswirth scored 3:17 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jeremy Boyer assisted on the tally. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Dan Cornell and Brian Berger, who contributed one each. Bryan Hince recorded 29 saves for the Ice Bears. Knoxville incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Marco De Filippo rejected 23 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
