Huntsville boosted by Genoe's play in net, beats Peoria 3-1Breland Homes Ice Sat, Mar 14, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Kevin Genoe helped the Huntsville Havoc defeat the Peoria Rivermen, 3-1. Huntsville was sparked by Luke Greiner, who registered one goal. Greiner scored 14:44 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. Jarred Mohr picked up the assist. The Havoc forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. The Havoc relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jacob Johnstone, Greiner and Justin Cseter took 16 of the team's 31 shots. Huntsville additionally got points from Mohr, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Drew Akins, Harry Mahesh, and Dave Williams, who contributed one each. Peoria's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Rivermen had been spending in the box. Peoria could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Rivermen put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. By firing 38 shots on goal, Peoria exceeded the 29.2 shots it averages per game this year. The Rivermen were led by Josh Harris, who scored the team's only goal. Harris scored on the power play 5:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Robert Davis had put Peoria on the power play. Genoe recorded 37 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Rivermen's Kyle Rank stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Peoria registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
