Huntsville blows out Louisiana, 7-1Cajundome Fri, Mar 06, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Huntsville Havoc were firing on all cylinders against the Louisiana IceGators, and when the final buzzer sounded Havoc emerged with a 7-1 win. Huntsville was led by goalie Kevin Genoe, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Genoe managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.77 prior to the game. With 27 shots on target during the contest, the Havoc exceeded the 23.2 shots they average per game this year. Huntsville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Havoc average 2.2 goals per game. Huntsville took advantage of Louisiana's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities. The Havoc were helped by Jacob Johnstone, who racked up two goals and one assist. Johnstone scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Huntsville had gained a power play chance when Matt Viola was whistled for tripping. Drew Akins provided the assist. Johnstone's next tally on the power play made the score 7-1 Huntsville with 1:00 left in the third period. The Havoc earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Ciccarello was put in the box for cross checking. Akins picked up the assist. Huntsville additionally got points from Curtis Megginson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Akins, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Luke Greiner, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Harry Mahesh also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Ray Ortiz, who had two and Stuart Stefan, Jarred Mohr, Colin Hekle, and Frank Schumacher, who each chipped in one. The IceGators' offense operated below their season average. Louisiana averages 3.2 goals per game. The IceGators' offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 20.4 shots per game they average. Louisiana was led by Adam Stuart, who scored the team's only goal. Stuart scored on the power play 19:57 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville. The IceGators had taken the advantage when Huntsville's Mohr got sent off for slashing. Chris Wilson provided the assist. The Havoc incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Louisiana took out Garrett Zemlak after he had made 12 saves and installed Marco De Filippo in goal, where he finished with eight saves and the loss. The IceGators incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
