Columbus beats Fayetteville 6-4 as Williamson gets hat trick

A hat trick by Bryce Williamson was the highlight in Cottonmouths' 6-4 win against the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Williamson notched his first tally 3:25 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:24 into the first and at 19:28 into the third.

The Columbus Cottonmouths led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Columbus' Will Aide scored on the power play at 9:19 in the third period to put the Cottonmouths up 5-1.

Columbus found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Cottonmouths average 3.3 goals per game. Columbus relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Williamson, Louis Belisle and Nick Curry took 26 of the team's 49 shots.

Craig Simchuk also scored for Columbus. Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Neilsson Arcibal, who had two and Patrick McCadden, Levi Lind, Matt Gingera, Chris Bailer, Mike Switzer, and Shawn Bates, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville's offense was clicking better than usual and put 25 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22.0 shots per game it averages.

The FireAntz were led by Trever Hertz, who had one goal and one assist. Hertz scored 15:40 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Columbus. Chad Hohmann provided the assist. Fayetteville additionally got points from Matt Robertson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fayetteville included Derek Elliott and Josh McQuade, who scored one goal each. More assists for Fayetteville came via Randy Cameron, Kyle McNeil, and Jan Safar, who contributed one each.

The Cottonmouths' Shannon Szabados stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Columbus incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Andrew Flemming made 43 saves for Fayetteville on 48 shots. The FireAntz incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
