Huge game by McParland boosts Pensacola over Louisiana, 5-1

The Pensacola Ice Flyers' Nick McParland had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-1 win over the Louisiana IceGators.

McParland scored at 9:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 10:31 into the first to make the score 2-1 Pensacola.

Pensacola excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Ice Flyers were below their usual level of shot production, taking 16 shots compared to the 25.3 Pensacola averages.

Pensacola also got points from Brett Beebe, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Corey Banfield, who also had one goal and one assist. Jon Puskar also scored for Pensacola. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Brett Lutes, who had four and Justin Fillion, Steve Bergin, and Nick Larson, who each chipped in one.

Louisiana did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The IceGators average 3.2 goals per game. With 22 shots on target during the contest, Louisiana exceeded the 18.7 shots it averages per game this year.

The IceGators were led by Clark Byczynski, who scored the team's only goal. Byczynski scored 6:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Louisiana. Tyler Klein picked up the assist.

Max Strang made 21 saves for the Ice Flyers on 22 shots. Pensacola totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Louisiana's starting goalie, Marco De Filippo, made five saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Garrett Zemlak, who stopped six shots. The IceGators ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
