Fayetteville vanquishes Pensacola in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Derek Elliott scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Fayetteville FireAntz picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (1-0 SO) win over the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

The two teams needed 16 turns to complete the shootout.

Fayetteville overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The FireAntz was down 3-1 after a goal by Pensacola's Adam Pawlick at 2:55 in the second period. Fayetteville tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Randy Cameron at 7:59 in the third period.

The FireAntz were helped by Josh McQuade, who tallied one goal. McQuade scored 7:37 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Pensacola. John Clewlow picked up the assist. Fayetteville also got points from Cameron, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Daae also scored for Fayetteville. Other players who recorded assists for Fayetteville were Chad Hohmann and Jan Safar, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Flyers stifled Fayetteville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 42 shots that Pensacola put on net surpassed the Ice Flyers' average of 24.3 shots per game this season.

Pensacola was helped by Nick Larson, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Larson scored on the power play 14:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Ice Flyers had taken the advantage when the FireAntz's Kristaps Nimanis got sent off for cross checking. Pawlick assisted on the tally. Pensacola additionally got points from Pawlick, who also registered one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Brett Lutes as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Justin Fillion, Steve Bergin, and Corey Banfield, who contributed one each.

Kevin Murdock recorded 39 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Pensacola's Max Strang stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Ice Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
