Pensacola survives Louisiana comeback, wins 4-2

The Louisiana IceGators tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Nick Lazorko put Pensacola up 4-1 in the second period, but Louisiana pulled to within two on Bret Peppler's tally 17:26 into the third period.

Corey Banfield had a great game for the Ice Flyers, netting two goals. Banfield found the back of the net on the power play 14:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and again while on the power play 51 seconds into the second to make the score 2-0 Pensacola.

Pensacola's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Louisiana power plays. By firing 38 shots on goal, the Ice Flyers exceeded the 24.0 shots they average per game this year.

Pensacola additionally got points from Jon Puskar, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Lazorko, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Keegan Flaherty and Nick Larson, who each chipped in one and Adam Pawlick and Steve Bergin, who contributed two each.

The 26 shots that the IceGators put on net surpassed Louisiana's average of 18.6 shots per game this season. The IceGators struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Pensacola to score two power play goals on three chances.

Louisiana also got points from Jake Hauswirth, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Jeremy Boyer and Adam Stuart, who each chipped in one.

The Ice Flyers' Max Strang stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Pensacola incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Marco De Filippo took the loss and made 28 saves before being replaced by Matt Zenzola who made six saves. Louisiana incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
