Peoria vanquishes Fayetteville in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)Crown Coliseum Sun, Feb 15, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Jake Trask scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Peoria Rivermen picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (1-0 SO) win over the Fayetteville FireAntz. The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams.Peoria saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Rivermen made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Trask at 10:13 in the third period. Fayetteville evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Trever Hertz at 19:56 in the third period. Peoria's penalty kill excelled, as the Rivermen gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Peoria relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Alex Hudson, Garrett Vermeersch and Mike Gurtler took 27 of the team's 52 shots. The Rivermen were helped by Trask, who finished with one goal. Peoria also got points from Vermeersch, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Peoria also got a goal from Dan Bremner as well. More assists for Peoria came via Nick Schneider, who had one. The FireAntz relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Josh McQuade, John Clewlow and Mike Montrose took 16 of the team's 28 shots. Fayetteville was led by Matt Robertson, who tallied two goals and one assist. Robertson scored the first of his two goals at 16:04 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Clewlow picked up the assist. Robertson's next tally made the score 3-2 Peoria with 6:38 left in the third period. The FireAntz had gotten the advantage when Peoria's Josh Harris was sent off for elbowing. Mike Kavanagh assisted on the tally. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Randy Cameron, Derek Elliott, and Chad Hohmann, who each chipped in one. The Rivermen's Kyle Rank stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Peoria incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Kevin Murdock recorded 48 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
