Fayetteville squeaks by Peoria, 3-2Crown Coliseum Fri, Feb 13, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Fayetteville FireAntz gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Peoria Rivermen. Fayetteville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Corey Tamblyn 3:52 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The FireAntz were sparked by Tamblyn, who racked up one goal. Fayetteville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Peoria to score on any of its three power plays. By firing 30 shots on goal, the FireAntz exceeded the 26.6 shots they average per game this year. Fayetteville additionally got points from Trever Hertz, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Daae also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Tim Recio, Derek Elliott, Chad Hohmann, and Jan Safar, who contributed one each. The Rivermen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Fayetteville power plays. With 45 shots on target during the contest, Peoria exceeded the 28.9 shots it averages per game this year. The Rivermen were helped by Dan Bremner, who registered one goal. Bremner scored 2:27 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Garrett Vermeersch assisted on the tally. Peoria also got a goal from Cole Ruwe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Alex Hudson, who had one. Kevin Murdock recorded 43 saves for Fayetteville. The FireAntz incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kyle Rank made 27 saves for Peoria on 30 shots. The Rivermen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
